I'm driving from California to Virginia. I find this place by searching for "truck stop" on foursquare after nav'ing to a restaurant that turned out to be a foursquare mirage. I'm expecting lots of truck parking, aisles of 12V fun, and blah food. I found none of that and I'm so very glad. They do have a few gas pumps. But then I went inside. I met some interesting people that I am still friends with. I got a great sandwich and several fine slices of pie. I'm very glad Food Network managed to find it too. Thank you serendipity and a name that defies expectations.

I came strictly the Smokey Valley Burger, and I was not disappointed. It's a half pound of beef goodness. Well worth the one hour drive to get here. Want a good truck stop burger, this is the place to go.

I did a review reductively on my previous review. As far as "smokey" (the name fits) restaurants, it wasn't nearly as bad as most Olive Hill restaurants are- I'm pretty sure over 80% of Olive Hill's population smokes. The only reason it's not higher is because I'm including infants. They must have pretty good smoke eaters here because it wasn't very bad. This baffled me because it was past 9pm on a Monday and this place was packed(?!?). They must be doing something right. I almost sneaked into a corner of the place as far as I could get from people. That is always my modus oprandi but even more in smokey environments. It only took them 15min to notice me. I was hoping they wouldn't thus justifying a bad tip. Then I asked the waitress what she would eat. She eagerly recited a litany of stuff that I had no interest in. I always do that but this time I did order stuff I never order because I'm getting too obese and need to cut back my intake. redaction: I have since went back many times, each time getting a different meal. I have loved them all. The roast beef was incredible.

Great atmosphere, excellent food and great prices! The service could be better but the overall atmosphere and desert make this place amazing! I ordered country ham with three sides, 2 dinner rolls a glass of water and a slice of home made coconut cream pie for under 11 dollars!!!! Highly recommend this place.

Best truck stop ever, even with the fact that they do not have gas.

I must agree with Lauren B. We drove all night on our way to Lexington and had high expectations for the biscuits and gravy only to be tormented with a floury goo with some sausage mixed in. Worst biscuits and gravy I have had yet. Could not stand to try anything else. Hopefully today was just an off day, but I will never experience anything else.

I've eaten here at least a hundred times. The fare is your basic "comfort food". It's really the only non-chain place to eat between Morehead and Grayson. The Valley is very much a regular stop for the locals. All seats are taken on Sundays, so be prepared to stand and wait. Authentic country grill atmosphere. Please note. The posted address is not even close. The Valley is actually located just south of the I-64 exit for Route 2 (the westernmost Olive Hill exit). Look for the big "Sunoco" sign: a relic from when the cafe was actually a truck stop (which it's not anymore).

I don't know exactly what I was expecting since it's a truck stop, but I wanted to try it out since it was on Diners, Dives, and Drive-Ins. I don't care for greasy food and there weren't a whole lot of non-greasy options (mostly giant burgers and fried food). They did have a few breakfast items and salads to pick from, but I settled on a Reuben with turkey instead of corned beef and seared bread instead of grilled. The server was really friendly but the sandwich came out soggy.. It's served with white bread not rye and it was just almost to wet to eat on one side. I just took the wet piece of bread off and ate it open faced. I tried the famed coconut cream pie that was featured on Guy's show.. I didn't care for it but others at my table loved it. So.. I wouldn't go back. But it was probably just not my kind of restaurant.

It's located in an old truck stop and has been featured on Diners, drive ins and dives. They no longer sale gasoline but have hardy country cooking. It's rustic but that's part of it's appeal . Don't let the outside scare you off! They have daily specials and a menu. The staff is friendly . The whole time we were there, people were constantly arriving. I had the baked steak and gravy, mashed potatoes , turnip greens and pinto beans . The greens lacked seasoning as did the pinto beans. The cornbread took care of the beans though. The steak was tender and easily cut with a fork. The mashed potatoes were plentiful and tasted good. My companion had a hamburger which was fresh and hand patted and looked delicious, she said it was! They are famous for their coconut cream pie, but I was too full to find out. I'll have to try it another day on my travels. The only two down falls were : the inside had a slight mildew smell and it took an hour for our food. If you're in a hurry , this is not the place for you. If you have time , you'll enjoy the variety of customers and food.

This was an old college late night snack spot. Stopped in for during our travels tonight. Friendly staff. Country style food. The only big CON is that hey apparently still allow people to smoke . And of course a group of smokers say right next to us. boo! I guess they are sticking to the name "smokey valley".

Best part was the coconut cream pie.. Clean and friendly staff. Good prices, food was ok. Didn't like that they allowed smoking in the restaurant. Over all good spot to get a bite to eat.

What luck. We were due for a lunch stop while in the vicinity of Smokey Valley Truck Stop while on vacation. According to a little Googlin', the place had been on TV due to its coconut cream pie. It was meant to be. And it did not disappoint. NOTE: I don't remember my burger and fries. I don't remember what anyone else ate. I assume it was adequate. It might have been good. The pie erased all other taste memories upon touching my tongue. THE PIE! THE PIE! Wow. It was so freaking good. Usually, I find these "featured on that Spiky Haired Food TV Guy's show" places to be a little ho-hummy. This was not. This was PIE. I keep typing PIE. I do it in all-caps. PIE. Because they made good PIE. The kind of PIE you always hope to get but never really do. Unless you go here. Then you get coconut cream P.I.E. It's a truck stoppy kind of place. Well, not really. It used to be. Now it's just a restaurant. But it's not elegant, you know? A lot of dark wood. A lot of unintentionally kitschy decoration. If you're not from the middle of nowhere, like me, you might think it borders on hilarity. I think they come upon it honestly. The prices? I don't remember. Probably on the cheap side of things. Nothing in Olive Hill, KY and its surrounding area can be THAT expensive. It's all about the PIE. And you can smoke in the restaurant. That's cray. Imagine eating a giant chunk of tasty delicious PIE and sipping on some piping hot coffee while occasionally taking a drag off your cig of choice. BOOM! That's 1970 PIE-EATING GLORY, homeskillet. That's an experience. That's Smokey Valley. The pie. Meringue so high. Filling so sweet and tasty with just the right amount of coconut. The crust so buttery and delicate. The size so substantial. The PIE! I'm attaching pictures. Stare at the one of the PIE. That's all you need to know or to see. P I E

I came to this restaurant after being in town to visit family. I was excited at first hearing that DDD was here. It was a little gross walking in. Flies were hovering around and it took a while to get attention because it was self seating. I ordered the turkey club and took a slice of the famous coconut cream pie. The sandwich was good but the turkey tasted funny so I didn't eat it. My dad ordered the cheeseburger which looked tasty and the fries were good. The waitress apologized for the wait and said they need more staff to help since they had a turn over. The coconut pie was really good and I'd recommend it! **BTW** They allow smoking in this restaurant **

My wife and I stopped because we stayed at a B&B in town and it was recommended. I can't remember what we ordered but our meals were good. Nothing special but filling and inexpensive. Service was slow but reasonably friendly. We stood at the front for several minutes waiting to be seated while waitresses walked by us. Finally, a patron told us to just sit anywhere. When the waitresses did finally attend to us, they were friendly. They are know for their coconut cream pie and it was good. My wife's apple pie was straight from the local grocer. If you're chugging along I-64 and need a place to eat, Smokey Valley Truck Stop will fill the bill with no problems. One last thing...smoking is apparently allowed in KY restaurants. There was only one smoker while we were at the restaurant but it could have been a problem had there been more of them or had they been at closer tables.

If you are driving on I64 near Olive Hill, KY, and you are looking for some "ok" grilled or fried food, go ahead and stop. This place was on DD&D a few years ago so I had high hopes but was let down. My first surprise was walking in the door and being hit by all the cigarette smoke. Once my eyes stopped watering I expected to see a few pool tables and a large bar but no, just dinner tables. Service was nice. Food was ok.

Did I tell you I was almost born here? Yeah, and I would have been if they didn't have gas back then... but they did and I wasn't. They gassed up the station wagon and I got a proper birthing. So this place is sorta special to me. They have some great food. I enjoy the meatloaf special that comes with three sides (I get greens, mashed taters and green beans) and your choice of bread (cornbread over here, please). It very reasonably priced and large portions. We usually have leftovers. They have some pretty great burgers and don't mind frying an egg up to throw on there for you. They can hook you up on fried. French fries, fried mushrooms, fried cheese sticks. Mmmm... fried. The desserts are top notch. Don't leave without getting one. Don't be in too big of a hurry...sometimes things run a little slow. As long as they keep serving my kind of food then I forgive them.

I went to college near here and loved the food and the atmosphere. We went back in October and the burger was just as good as before. Their pies are homemade and it is a place where there are no strangers. It had been 20+ years since I had been back for a homecoming and the guys and I hit this place and it was a highlight of the weekend!

As a stop on one of my favorite Food Network shows"diners, drive-ins and dives", we were excited to stop in for a killer meal. However, we were disappointed to find they no longer lived up to their once-known popular name. The breakfast menu proved hopeful but was disappointing. The basic southern staples fell short- like gravy seemed to taste more like flour than flavor. My group was eager to try a great meal after a long cross-state-lines drive to our destination only a few miles away. Sadly, we not only found the service was lackluster but the food was not much better. Sadly, i doubt we will return on this trip. Our meals didnt come out at the same time - as most places tend to do and it is not worthy of it's spot on the popular Food Network show. Next time through, we shall pick another diner in the area that will not turn our breakfast into shambles

I wanted to give this a better review since it was seen on Triple D and is from my family's hometown area. We got two orders of biscuits and gravy that were very bad. We did not even finish them, they were bland and just not good. Biscuits were probably some of the worst I have had, similar to the crumbliness and blandness(not butter flavor) of KFC. Not good for Bfast. My daughters biscuits sandwich was burned on the bottom, she also did not finish it. My other daughter got pancakes and said they were good. My stepmom got a plain omelet and it looked pretty good. Don't waste your time, for breakfast anyway and if you are from a more metropolitan area you will probably feel out of place. Save your time and head to exit 172 and go to Biscuit World in Grayson. It is a chain but not well known and so many times better.

Possibly the best truck stop of all time. Had the Ham steak it came with 3 sides I had the mashed potatoes hash browns and green beans. The food was ready in about 7 minutes. The amount of food was shocking to me for the price I would have paid a bit more. The quality of food was great as well. Mashed potatoes are key. Though I've heard about the pies via diners drive ins and dives I was too full to even think about it. Great place super cool people ill be back alot!

No complaints. I had the Breaded Chuckwagon, and the sides were all great--country green beans, turnip greens (served with vinegar), and cole slaw. Refills on my iced tea were no problem. The service was a tad slow, but the food was worth it, and besides, we were on vacation. Although I did feel like we were being rushed out a bit at the end of the meal--odd, since there was barely anyone else in the place. I understand the place is usually packed ever since Guy Fieri's show in December on "Drive-Ins, Diners, and Dives" that highlighted them, but we had no problem going right in and getting a table to accommodate 8 people, one of whom was in a wheelchair. Friendly people, and the pecan pie is to die for.

Saw this on Triple D food channel show and just had to stop on my to Virginia. All I can say is they have really good country home cookin'. The interesting thing is they are not listed on the big blue board out on the interstate for the food places. I'd bet they would get more non-local business if they were but I'm sure all the locals know the location. Stopped for dinner but wished I had gone back for breakfast the next morning after spending the night in Grayson.
